Specialist Coating

TSA - Thermally Sprayed Aluminium

Paint lasts for 7 years. TSA lasts for 25 – 30 years. You equipment will be protected for up to four times longer with no downtime for recoating.

With the help of Wood Group and Shell UK, GCG was the first company to introduce TSA to a live gas environment, applying the coating in a safe and productive manner. It has built up its expertise over more than 20 years, making it the leading TSA applicator in the country.

TSA application will have a massive role in the future of plant and platform restoration, potentially saving operators tens of millions of pounds by prolonging the life of new equipment and rejuvenating old equipment so that it can be redeployed.

TSA Application Method

Aluminium wire is melted by a naked flame or with an electric arc and particles are sprayed onto a shot-blasted metal surface where they bond mechanically and, in some cases, metallurgically, to form a completely new surface. Metal spraying has a major advantage over paint spraying due to the fact that when it gets damaged or scratched the surrounding TSA coating "cathodically protects" the steel.

GCG use Wire Flame Spray or Electric Arc Wire Spray depending on the project and materials to be used. Developments in technology mean that we can spray precisely the areas which need coating, and reach narrow angles and tight corners, ensuring accurate, cost effective and complete protection. Customers who have concerns about introducing a naked flame into a potentially explosive environment can rest assured that GCG's team of fully trained and experienced professionals can carry out TSA application in a safe and efficient manner.
